Soon the consecration

Today, Marsannay is a dynamic appellation internationally renowned.

Enormous progress in the quality has been achieved since the year 2000’s, with the arrival of a new generation of winegrowers supported by the willingness of the eldest who have always believed in the richness of their terroirs.

The wines are recognized for their quality and appreciated by the best restaurants in France and around the world.

This demanding new generation of winegrowers, curious and united, have developed a deep knowledge of their terroirs thanks to the undertaking of a very important study of all the soils and subsoils with Françoise Vannier-Petit, a geologist.

This study was transmitted to the INAO to support the request for a classification of Premier Cru for the best terroirs of the appellation.

14 climats are concerned : Clos du Roy, Les Longeroies, En la Montagne, Les Echezots, La Charme aux Prêtres, Les Boivin, Les Grasses Têtes, Clos de Jeu, Saint-Jacques, Les Favières, Au Champ Salomon, Aux Genelières, Le Clos, Champs Perdrix.

More than ever, we seek to make our magnificent appellation shine!

THE WINES

Characteristics of the Terroirs

The geological substrate consists of:

  • Jurassic limestones (Entroques, Oolithe blanches, Limestone from Comblanchien, Limestone from Premeaux) very varied in color
  • Marles (mix of clay and chalk) sometimes rich in small oysters
  • Gravelly scree on the slopes and stony alluvium at the mouth of the valleys
  • Sediments composed of chalky and clay pebbles.

This incredible geological diversity of our terroirs gives a thousand facets to the expressions of our wines.

Well exposed to the rising and mid-day sun, the vineyards of the appellation range from 260 to 390 meters of altitude, between the cereal crops of the plain to the East, and the forests and limestone grasslands of the plateau to the West.  This hillside, whose concave slopes can locally reach 20%, is cut by valleys (combes).
