STHE CÔTE DE NUITS VINEYARDS

The Côte de Nuits vineyards are dotted with valleys and vast alluvial fans (Combe de Lavaux, Combe de Grandvau…).

The slopes are steep up to the middle of the hillside, then progressively soften down to the Saône plain. The vines are planted on the hillside, at an altitude of between 200 and 380 meters, on slopes facing the southeast and the rising sun.

The soils on which the vines are planted are covered with limestone scree from the top of the Côte, red silt deposited during the glacial eras, and rock resulting from the alteration of the underlying geological layers. They are a brown limestone, clayey and stony.

At the top of the slopes, the soils are poor, very chalky.  It is richer in clay as you descend.
